During the extremely hot week starting with some practice on Tuesday, 23^rd June, our campaign in the 2026 Cyril Gray at Worplesdon GC for teams of 6, all over the age of 50, got underway.

Luckily the draw saw us starting at 8am and on the Wednesday we overcame Bishop’s Stortford 3-0.  The second round matches on the Thursday morning were cut to only 9 holes because the winners would have to go out a second time and 36 holes-a-day in approximately 34 degrees C were considered very unwise.

In the second round we lost to Watson’s (who went on the win the tournament).  Tim Mote and Chris Walker took their opponents to an extra hole but this was not completed (despite us being in a commanding position) and the score to Watson’s was recorded as 2.5-0.5.

Others in the Eastbourne team were: Adam Walker, David Barwell, Mark Stewart, Adrian Sharpin, Ben Dawson (on the Wednesday), and Paul Wickman (our second reserve who practiced with us on the Tuesday).  Many thanks to all of our players.
