Slightly damp conditions faced the OE team of Grant Leonard, Tim Mote, Piers Manktelow, and Harry Rimmer at Royal Wimbledon on Tuesday, 4th June.

With a full four man team (unusual compared to some years) we set off in our strategically organised order.  In spite of some very close matches, at the halfway stage we found ourselves bottom, in eighth place.  Clawing back steadily, we got up to sixth after 6 matches.  Leonard, the captain of the day, unfortunately lost his last 2, very close, matches and we ended up seventh out of the eight teams.

A wonderful Indian supper ensued. Merchant Taylors and Wellington took the bragging rights, going through to the following week’s final but Eastbourne, alas, was relegated. Consequently, there will be no visit to RWGC next year.  We shall have to set our sights instead on 2026.
