Piltdown GC Summer Open Event – 17th June 2024
This was the first time the OEGS and ES (Eastbournian Society) joined forces to host a golf day for those in both societies.
24 players of mixed abilities congregated at Piltdown for a light lunch at midday. Chris Walker then welcomed everyone before we headed off on a beautiful day and well-manicured course, which was first played in 1905.
The format was teams of four with the two best stableford scores counting from each team, as well as best individual score, longest drive and nearest the pin.
It was great to see so many new faces, from 18 to 70+ years of age, who will hopefully get involved with the OEGS.
The course, no bunkers but lots of heather, was challenging but its condition was exceptional. Over the past few years, they have invested a huge amount on the greens and it showed. They were consistent but tricky!
After the golf, we had a few drinks and an award ceremony. Well done to Elaine Robinson who scored an amazing 41 points, 22 out and 19 back.
The team award went to Claire Patterson-Snell, Iryna Photiou, Elaine Robinson and Patricia Sneath with a huge best two scores total of 100. A great team effort. In second place was only 80 points.
Nearest the pin on the tricky seventh hole went to Carolyn Oldham and longest drive to Matt Grover.
Emma Garrett (ES Development Director) presented the awards and invited everyone to the Foundation Golf Day at Royal Eastbourne GC on Thursday 11th July.
