On 10 March we were due to put out a team of 10 against the Old Cranleighans but flu, a bad back and the extremely poor weather forecast ended up reducing the OE team to only seven players. The weather, at least in the morning, was absolutely brutal with winds of up to 60mph. Foursomes golf of a sort was played and, in most cases, over the complete 18 holes, but no tally of matches won and lost was taken. We were just glad to get in safely for the usual magnificent lunch. Most of us then played at least 9 holes in the afternoon in slightly better conditions. It is difficult to resist a round at Royal St George’s, even on a day such as we had.
