2019 Public Schools Putting Competition

Date: 4th Jun 2019
Venue: Royal Winbledon GC
Result: We finished fourth out of eight teams

A great day at Royal Wimbledon GC for the Schools putting competition 2019.  Our team of four, Ben Burrows, Ben Dawson, Will Thornton and Grant Leonard performed well and came fourth out of eight schools, just missing a spot in the finals.  After a nervy start in all four first matches we hit our straps and got the measure of the vast, undulating green outside the magnificent RWGC clubhouse. Mr Burrow’s decision to use an ancient putter certainly paid off, Ben Dawson took momentum from his two over par round earlier in the day into the Comp itself, whilst Will’s decision to use a new putter was a genius idea.  Leonard’s two pre-comp. Kummels shall remain de rigueur.  The decision to play the course beforehand (at the reasonable members guest rate) was enjoyed by all and this place really is an oasis, five miles from the centre of town.
