OEGS vs. Lancing 23rd August 2022

A hot and humid day awaited the OE team for our annual match against Lancing at West Surrey.  Consistent drizzle for the first few holes provided some refreshing respite, and as the sun burnt through the standard of golf improved.

Peter Henley and Tony Dunn took on the top opening pair from Lancing.  A tight match ensued with some excellent shots viewed at certain stages by the Captain with words of appreciation exclaimed.  The match was halved; a good result, considering the standard of the opposition.

Colin Farrant and Ian Henley came out all guns blazing, quickly taking the lead and going two up.  They remained ahead at the halfway hut (very good sausages I may add) but Lancing clawed them back and the match, going down the last, was halved.

All Square and over to Captain Leonard to secure the win.  Playing a single against the Lancing pair he quickly went four down without playing that badly.  A mini fight back around the turn saw the score reduced to 2 down but two stupid mistakes cost him.  It was all over at the sixteenth.

Great day, wrong result but we’ll be back.
