Our 2024 match against the College was played in bright sunshine, offering blessed relief after all the rain through winter and spring, but with a stiff, fresh breeze, as is usual at Royal Eastbourne GC. A very enjoyable encounter ended in an honourable draw with one win, one loss and two halves a piece with Iryna Photiou and Colin Farrant winning by 2&1 after being 5 up at one stage. Chris Walker and Peter Henley held the formidable Shakespeare boys off until the 17th before succumbing, while Ian Henley and Tony Dunn led until they allowed Barney and Aman back into it on the 14th and ended all square on the last. Meantime newcomers to the OEGS, Ivor and Albena Bailey were entrusted with the final match and secured the honourable draw by squaring their match with their son, Alex and his partner. The boys were all excellent golfers but more importantly, delightful company both on and off the course over drinks and sandwiches afterwards. A credit to themselves, their parents and the College.
